eco-design and creativity...30/11/2008
We often accompany you, throughout the day, at the table, in the kitchen and in the bathroom. You can find us in your kids' hands, in the bath or under the shower; Who are we ? We are Taplast's pumps and caps of course !
Cheerful, amusing, light and colourful, each of us is different - like a bunch of little animals that are strange and yet at the same time familiar. We are made from plastic and when our job is done we still like to play with our other friends who are made of glass, wood and paper.
These are the main characters of the mural, created by Giuseppe Ianello and Veronica Organo, - two local young artists - situated in the entrance to Taplast's Vicenza-based HQ. Taplast is a company known around the world - especially amongst major consumer brands, themselves household names - for the uniqueness of its products; characterised by design, creativity, attention to the environment and a young, unmistakable style : in a word ‘different'
These two young designers were given the difficult task of creating the company's ‘portrait' but, naturally, one outside the usual scheme of things; and the challenge within the challenge was to use the shapes, colours, materials and components from Taplast's caps and dispenser pumps, together with other recycled materials that would otherwise be discarded. Within this framework the pair have invented a vivacious, 3-dimensional artwork. The little ‘cap' animals run about in a kind-of fluid city, smiling and winking amongst the pseudo-skyscrapers, colours and totem-like antennas in an enormous 3-D pop cartoon.
" We have taken the industrial product out of its usual context - explain the two young artists - we have robbed them of their usual function only to then find it again in the four underlying values of the company : design in the innovation of forms; creativity, also in the ability to reinvent and re-use waste materials; environmental sensitivity - represented in the animal shapes, the bright sunny colours and the green tones; innovation in terms of a young spirit and the ability to create diversity"
Components from Taplast's caps and pumps are used in the characters both as decorative elements and as pieces that make up a mosaic. In particular, the bellows spring, unique to Taplast pumps is exploited for its original shape and due to its vast range of colours it is used to create scales, feathers, and threads of garments. Thanks to its versatility the plastic spring becomes the base element for the construction of the two sculpture-like lamps hanging from the centre of the ceiling, that have been designed to balance the impact of the work below them, a balance also achieved by the warm/cold contrasts in the colours used. The wooden shaped panels present, on the other hand, blocks of colour that are alternated with decorated paper coverings featuring patterns and appliqué mirrors that enrich the composition with reflections and unexpected flashes of light.
It's a dynamic scene, that's both captivating and amusing and has a strong chromatic impact that plays with bright tones that soften the rigorous form, typical of a corporate environment and emanates a sensation of cordiality and hospitality that almost seems to exclaim ‘You are welcome to join us!' says Paolo Santagiuliana, Taplast's Managing Director - it is especially coherent with our vision of innovation : creativity and minimalism in a work, the wall decoration, that is street art, represents simple creativity, made up of few elements and free" go to : http://www.flickr.com/photos/veronicaorgano/
